Once a year will be held a procession in honor of Nuestra Sra. de Guadalupe in Guará high up in the mountains of La Gomera.
A wonderful event in which friends and families come together to celebrate the ceremony.
Well -  a small series was born - Campo Santo:

El Silbo - La Gomera

El Silbo - La Gomera

El Silbo is a whistled language spoken by inhabitants of La Gomera in the Canary Islands to communicate across the deep ravines and narrow valleys that radiate through our island. Read more about the topic on Wikipedia (en) and listen: MP3.

The photos were taken for a well known Hotel here on La Gomera, which is just working on the redesign of their home page. But do not worry. I will not mutate into a hotel photographer. :-)

There are around 50 prints - after the darkroom work - to sift through and select ... not an easy task.
This time I do really hard with the edit of the new series.

Too many people on the beach, too many walking tracks in the sand ... it is better to stay at home drinking a good glass of wine and enjoying the view over the valley.

Tim Hart, december 2008
© Oliver Weber - Tim Hart, december 2008

December 2008 I took this photograph of Tim Hart in his house on La Gomera. Since this time unfortunately changed a lot in his life. Conny - his wife - wrote me a Email and I hope that these words will help anyone out there and especially Tim.

"The man in the picture is Tim Hart, musician, writer, photographer, and my husband. Since December 2008 we have known that he has Adenocarcinoma (lung cancer), which is inoperable. Unfortunately it was necessary to leave our house and our beloved island, La Gomera, and to find ourselves a small apartment in the English town of Reading.Although we are both feeling very homesick, we are grateful that Tim has found wonderful help in Reading’s Royal Berkshire Hospital. Of course doctors can’t just take away the disease. Self-responsibility is needed to conquer the illness and deal with all the side effects of chemo- and radiotherapy, especially the awful fatigue. We found lots of help from our friends and doctors on La Gomera, who advised Tim to seek treatment in England, and here in England we have been helped by the wonderful Macmillan Nurses, who have given us lots of advice on how to cope with cancer, as well as financial advice. It is also amazing how much patience and cooperation we get from the special cancer nurses and doctors in the hospital, who we have peppered with questions. We were recommended to the English website: ANY QUESTION ON ANY CANCER  to get further information, which I can only further recommend. I also can recommend the special cancer forums in every language to share experiences, and where lots of personal help is given by people who have faced living with cancer for years. One thing is quite clear, cancer changes your life, and it is up to us how we start and live every day. Lots of love.
Conny and Tim"

The TWO WAY LENS Interview: Oliver Weber

© TWO Way Lens - Editor: Michael Werner

Well, I am so excited to let you know that an interview with me has been added to the TWO WAY LENS - project. Please come and read my conribution there, which is a continuation to the themes and wisdom already provided by such famous photographers like Magnum photographer Martin Parr, Amy Stein, Alec Soth, Andrew Phelps, Deborah Hamon, James Friedman, Jessica Todd Harper, Richard Renaldi, Ron Jude, Susan Wides, Terry Weifenbach, Tim Hailand, Lori Nix, William Greiner and Zoe Strauss.
I am very proud showing my work besides the already published excellent works. My special thanks go above all to Michael Werner - the editor of TWO WAY LENS - who has appealed to me.

The interview on Two Way Lens

About Two Way Lens:
Two Way Lens is a project of interviews with international, contemporary photographers. Their answers to three simple questions about their career paths, presented in this project, should help, inspire and inform emerging photographers. The tips and advice provided will be of value to every young photographer. A new photographer/ interview is added to the project every month. The list of photographers already included is like a "whos who" of the contemporary fine art photography scene. As a reflection of this high value, Two Way Lens will be added to recommanded reading lists as a reference source for photography students at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Two Way Lens is published and edited by the German photographer, Michael Werner.
